LBJ and Coffey Over the Years
LBJ & Coffey: 5 Brand Stories
From his boyhood home in the Texas Hill Country to the Moon and back again, Coffey’s had the honor of sharing the rich history and significance of the 36th president of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson, through the legacy of a few very different brand experiences. Each client story featured below has uniquely come along during Coffey’s time as a leader within an agency and as the founder of Coffey Brand Development.
1. Poly
A multinational video and voice technology company with a critical role in one of the world’s most historic space missions.
In 2019, Plantronics, an American electronics company, acquired Polycom, a video and voice communications company, and rebranded to Poly. Following the rebrand, Prophet, Poly’s global brand consultancy, tapped their digital agency, Springbox, creatively led by founder Megan Coffey, to generate awareness for Poly’s role in a historic spaceflight.
Founder Megan Coffey, on behalf of Springbox, was engaged to connect the new-to-the-world consumer technology brand to one of the most critical communications in the history of the modern world — the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s spaceflight — where the words “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” were heard by millions of Americans through Plantronics (now Poly) audio headsets.
The campaign “Poly, We’re A Go” celebrated the key role Plantronics (now Poly) played in the momentous event, giving the new brand a catalyst to feature focused areas of innovation and to drive consideration for Poly’s portfolio of headsets. Archival NASA imagery featuring LBJ, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and the original headset used on the mission was approved for usage alongside images of Poly’s latest products.
2. LBJ Presidential Library
The ten-story museum, monumentally located on 30 acres in Austin, Texas, had an impressive physical archive yet an antiquated digital experience.
One of 15 Presidential Libraries in the United States, the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum is home to 45 million documents, an extensive audiovisual collection, 5,000 hours of recordings, and 54,000 artifacts. Annually the library attracts over 100,000 local and out-of-state visitors a year, including educators, archivists, LBJ enthusiasts, celebrity guests, and high-profile politicians.
The LBJ Presidential Library engaged, Springbox, creatively led by founder, Megan Coffey, to renovate the library’s online presence, connecting it more closely to the memorable experience of physically visiting the museum.
The digital solution adhered to multiple layers of government compliance while bringing forward the rich and impactful story of LBJ, his legacy, and his influence during the 1960s.
The rebuilt digital experience for the LBJ Presidential Library received the International Competition Gold MarCom Award for Digital Media.
3. Elisabeth Hay Group
A top-performing real estate agent, proudly serving (and beautifying) the boyhood home of LBJ.
A Texas Hill Country homeowner and enthusiast, Elisabeth Hay keeps an office off Main Street in Johnson City, where she’s contributed directly to the town’s artsy culture by commissioning an Instagram-worthy mural by Crystal Nobles that greets locals and out-of-towners as they drive west towards Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and Fredericksburg, the 2nd largest Wine Country in the United States. Elisabeth’s character and community influence continue to attract referrals: with past years’ sales exceeding $100 million.
Top-performing REALTOR®, Elisabeth Hay, repeatedly trusts Coffey Brand Development to support her brand and marketing needs.
4. Albert Icehouse & Dancehall
A president’s old stomping grounds and century-old Dancehall are still a hill country gathering spot.
Established in the 1890s, Albert, Texas, is home to one of Texas’s oldest, most storied dancehalls. While the 13-acre “town” history is a bit fuzzy, one thing is true: the young Lyndon Baines Johnson attended the Williams Creek School, which still stands just behind the renovated Dancehall. Rumor has it the area native played baseball and climbed the legendary oak trees that shade the Icehouse Patio & Beer Garden on the property today.
Albert Icehouse & Dancehall is a beloved client of Coffey’s. Emails promoting the weekly lineup, just-announced performances, and featured merch continue to perform above industry benchmarks, and online ticket sales continue to peak month-over-month. 5. 464 Ranch Community
A thoughtful 72 ranchette community, currently under development, in historic Johnson City, Texas — just down the road from LBJ’s final resting place.
Rich with history, the 464 Ranch land goes back hundreds of years to early Texan settlers and even hosts the old Marble Falls wagon trail. Just 15 miles west of Johnson City, you can trace the ancestry and heritage of the 36th President at the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park — his birth, childhood, political career, retirement, and final resting place on his beloved LBJ Ranch.
Coffey’s managed every aspect of launching the 464 Ranch community to market.
